Welcome to the home of the Minneapolis Millers
Baseball Team. The Millers are a group of guys that play summer baseball for a
variety of teams in the Twin Cities metro area. They then come together to play
fall baseball and travel to Fort Myers, Florida every November to play in the
Roy Hobbs World Series. In past years they have played under the name of the
Minnesota Saints but, for 2003, there was a name and uniform change. The name
was taken from the old minor league team that used to play at Nicollet Park in
south Minneapolis. To honor that team they have modeled their uniforms on that
team's uniform from the early 1950's. The old Millers team played in the
American Association from 1902 to 1960 and spent most of their tenure with the
Red Sox and Giants organizations. Some notable stars that
played for the Millers include Hall Of Famers Roger Bresnahan, Jimmy Collins,
Urban 'Red' Faber, Bill McKechnie, George Kelly, Billy Herman, Ted Williams,
Ray 'Dandy' Dandridge, Willie Mays, Zack Wheat, Rube Waddell,
Hoyt Wilhelm, Monte Irvin, Orlando Cepeda and Carl Yastrzemski. And the great
Jimmie Foxx was a Millers coach in 1958.
In the recent past, only one team from Minnesota
competed in the Open division of the Roy Hobbs World Series (as many as
seven compete in the Veterans division), and that team had been the Saints. In
2003 that team split into three teams with Larry Gessler continuing to run the
Saints, Todd Cornelius and Scott Gatzke put the Millers together and Tim
Doboszenski started a team called the Minnesota Bandits. It soon became clear
that there were not enough players to make three teams. The result was that the
Saints dropped out and only the Millers and the Bandits traveled to Florida in
2003 and 2004. We will try to keep this
website updated as much as possible during the the fall and the Florida trip so
that our fans at home can follow our progress.
